I founded a Harry Potter club on Chapman’s campus that now has an auxiliary Quidditch team and a combined email reach of over 500 students. At our meetings every other week, I used the series as a platform to host discussions about the cultural communication saturating social issues as we know them today. Facilitating these discussions took a lot of patience and the ability to mediate in a room of students very passionate about the ethical state of elves in a fictional book series. I firmly believe using cultural metaphors will dramatically increase our ability as scholars to bring complex social conversations to the masses. Below are some examples of slides that helped curated discussion.
